Ever Closer Union

These gay Asian guys are practicing what the EU wants its member states to achieve. Ever closer union. Come to think of it, ASEAN might have the same idea. But that is unlikely to happen anytime soon on state level. Except for the happy coupling sbetween its individual citizens such as these guys here, what do countries such as folksy democratic Indonesia and militaristic royalist Thailand have in common?
